Jo Nova is from Colorado. She lives near Boulder and is primarily inspired by her travels through Colorado, Utah, and surrounding mountainous states. There is a magic wrapped up in the natural world and she uses her paintbrush to harness that magic.
On one side of her practice, she paints realistic landscapes inspired by the look of these beautiful places through the act of plein air, or painting outside. The act of sitting on the land and painting naturally forces an artist to slow down, to soak in all the little details that would otherwise be overlooked.
On the other, more artistically expressive side, Jo Nova paints how the natural world feels. These paintings are a mixture of her inner world of emotions, the energy of the subject being painted, all combined with an element of imagination. She enjoys capturing the flow of the subject in her painting to express the interlinked nature of all things.
Jo Nova became interested in art at a very young age, but it wasn’t until 2015 when things started clicking. For a while, she did a variety of abstract pen art and oil paintings as a hobby. In 2022, she became fully immersed in the world of art and dove all-in with watercolor painting.
She is currently transitioning to re-include pen art and oil painting into her practice. She is also incorporating more human elements into her nature paintings.
Although her art practice continues to rapidly evolve and grow, one thing remains consistent: Jo Nova is inspired by the depth of human connection to the natural world.
